Lawn vs. Yard

Everyone's Chasing the Perfect Lawn

We think your yard can do more than look good, it can feed your family, teach your kids where food actually comes from, and bring your neighbors back outside.

That's not a trend. That's just common sense, done right.

A lawn

You mow it, water it, and look at it.

A yard that feeds you

Fruit trees, vegetables, and pollinator plants that give something back.

Edible Landscaping

Edible Landscaping on Long Island

Edible landscaping means planting your yard with things you can eat: vegetable beds, fruit trees, berry bushes, and herbs, laid out so the yard still looks good from the street. As a landscape company on Long Island, we design it around your home, the sun you get, and how much time you want to spend out there.

It doesn’t have to be all or nothing. Plenty of yards start with one raised bed and a couple of fruit trees, and grow from there.

What grows well here

Long Island’s warm summers make for a good growing season. Tomatoes, peppers, beans, squash, lettuce, kale, and herbs do well in beds. Apples, pears, and peaches can work as fruit trees, and blueberries, raspberries, and strawberries fit into borders and smaller spaces.

Built the regenerative way

We build soil instead of just covering it: compost and mulch, plants that bring in pollinators, and rainwater kept on the property where it can do some good. The goal is a yard that gets better every season.

Our specialty

Edible Garden Installs

Fruit trees, vegetables, and pollinator-friendly plantings designed around your home.

We plan and build vegetable beds, raised beds, fruit trees, berry bushes, and herb gardens, placed where they’ll get the sun they need and look good doing it. Start with one bed or plan the whole yard.

  • Raised and in-ground vegetable beds
  • Fruit trees and berry bushes
  • Herb and pollinator plantings
  • Paths, edging, and compost spots

Pruning, shaping, and planting for trees, hedges, and shrubs, so they stay healthy and in proportion with your home.

Got a Lot That's Gotten Away From You?

For bigger, overgrown properties, we bring in goats to clear the brush and weeds the old-fashioned way.

Goats work through brush, vines, and weeds that are hard to reach with a mower, including slopes and uneven ground. Tell us about your lot and we’ll let you know if it’s a good fit.

Our Story

It Started With a Name

It started with a name. As a little girl, Matthew’s stepdaughter couldn’t quite say his name, so she called him “Eat.” It stuck. She grew up beside him, hands in the dirt, learning that good food starts in the yard, not the store.

After 35 years in the green industry and two landscape companies of his own, Matthew is building something more personal: a business that turns ordinary lawns into gardens that actually feed people. This isn’t a startup. It’s a legacy, growing one yard at a time.

FAQ

No. A sunny corner, a side yard, or a couple of raised beds is plenty to start. We design around the space you have.

Yes. A lot of people keep some lawn for the kids and the dog and turn the rest into beds and fruit trees. We can look after both.

No. We’re a full landscape company on Long Island. Along with edible gardens, we handle lawn maintenance, tree and shrub care, drainage and irrigation, and goat maintenance for overgrown lots.

That depends on what you grow and how involved you want to be. Before anything goes in the ground, we plan it around your family, what you want to grow and how hands-on you want to be.

Any time is a good time to get a quote and a plan. Spring is the main planting season, and fall is a good time for trees, shrubs, and getting beds ready for next year.

It means looking after the soil and working with nature instead of against it: compost and mulch, plants that support pollinators, and keeping rainwater on your property. The goal is a yard that gets healthier over time.

For bigger, overgrown properties, we bring in goats to clear the brush and weeds the old-fashioned way. Every lot is different, so tell us about yours and we’ll let you know if goats are the right fit.

Every yard is different, so we don’t list prices. The quote is free, with no pressure and no obligation.
